A few days ago my boyfriend brought me a tiny apple. I thought he had picked it off a tree we have here in our neighborhood but he said he got it at the grocery store. Immediately we thought wouldn't it make a great DIY post to make miniature caramel apples? The apples are called "crimson gold" and they are organic and grown near Santa Barbara. They were sold out at a few stores but luckily we found them and made this DIY happen! I got the caramel sauce recipe from Lick My Spoon blog. The recipe called for sea salt but we left that out since we wanted to sprinkle some pink sea salt on top of one of the apples.

Caramel Sauce

1 c sugar
6 Tbsp butter
1/2 c heavy whipping cream
1/4 water

I tried making caramel last week but it didn't thicken enough and turned out tasting like butter. This time it turned out perfectly!

Other Supplies

Lollipop sticks
nuts, chocolate chips, sprinkles, chili powder, cinnamon... any toppings you like

After you dip the apples in the caramel you might want to put them in the fridge for a bit, since the first few times we tried to put the sprinkles on the caramel slid off. These are so much fun for a party with friends you can make everyone a set of apples with the lollipop sticks already attached. Then everyone can dip and decorate their own apples! YUM. Enjoy!!
