I think you guys may already know I am a big fan of mojitos. Not only do I love drinking them but I have so much fun making them and experimenting with new flavors. Typically I make blueberry mojitos but I had a few containers of strawberries sitting around and I thought I would test it out. Not to toot my own horn or anything but these are by far the best drinks I have ever made. They blew my blueberry ones out of the water. I can already see these becoming a summer staple, especially when strawberries are in season!
Ingredients ( makes one drink)
juice of 1 small lime
2-3 ripe strawberries
1 Tbsp agave nectar (or simple syrup if you want to make some)
4 sprigs of mint (apx. 15 leaves, plus more for garnish)
1.5 oz white rum
After years of using the back of a wooden spoon to muddle drinks, I finally purchased a real muddler. If you have one, that's great but if not, any kitchen utensil you can use to mash up the fruit is fine. Wooden spoons work well, it just takes a little more time.
To make the mojito, add the strawberries, mint, lime juice and agave to your glass. Muddle the mint and strawberries until the strawberries and mint are macerated and have released their juices. Add the rum, and give it a stir to make sure the agave has dissolved and doesn't just sit at the bottom. Add ice, some more mint leaves, slice up some limes or throw in the squeezed lime halves and top with your favorite sparkling water. If you are feeling extra fancy you can even add some more mint leaves on top or slice into the tip of the strawberry and add it to the rim of the glass.
